KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz’s Directorate of Emergency Services (DES) provides the highest quality professional law enforcement, fire support and emergency services, however another recognition DES can now add to their repertoire is being the home for Installation Management Command Europe’s newest Soldier of the Quarter. Spc. Matthew Crawford was recognized for his extensive knowledge on law enforcement and eager work ethic Aug. 22, 2022.
“I have a will to learn my job and become as proficient as possible, and I help out whenever it’s needed,” said Crawford. “I also volunteer to work any detail that becomes available.”
Crawford, a Lima, Ohio native has been serving the U.S. Army for five years. His past positions include being a gunner, driver, armorer and Military Police investigator.
“I wanted to work a fulfilling career that would give me great life experiences and opportunities to travel. I also have family members that have served in the past and they had great stories from when they served. “That also made me want to join and make memories and have my own stories to pass on,” added Crawford.
Crawford filled the officer role for DES and attained the Commandant’s list during the Basic Leader’s Course graduation. In receiving the award, Crawford lauded those who are close to him.
“I would like to thank family for always being there for me. I would like to thank my unit for giving me the opportunities to help me succeed in my career. I would like to thank the Military Police Investigation Section that I work in for providing me with guidance and motivation to put my best foot forward every day.”
