FORT SILL, Okla. (Sept. 16, 2022) — Fort Sill and Corvias celebrated the delivery of a newly renovated five-bedroom home with a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday, Sept. 16, 2022.

The ceremony celebrated the Fort Sill-Corvias partnership achieving a key milestone for on-post housing — the successful renovation and conversion of a series of multi-family duplex homes into modern, 2,500 square foot, five-bedroom, single family homes.

“There's over 1,800 homes here on Fort Sill, which really comes out to about 6,500 soldiers and families that are residents in this community,” said Col. James Peay, Fort Sill Garrison commander. “The average home size is 1,600 square feet — having a large family myself, I would have done anything to have this opportunity over the years to live in such a great home.”

The new renovation is just one of 879 homes renovated by Corvias since 2008 as part of the Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI). Since assuming operations of Fort Sill family housing, Corvias has invested more than $210 million with 72% of contracts going to small businesses, said Pete Sims, Corvias managing director.

The initiative is part of the Army’s drive of putting people first, said Peay. Part of that drive is providing the best possible homes now and in the future.

“This conversion initiative will provide outstanding quality of life for some of our larger military families,” said Peay. “In addition, it's a model of excellence and we're repurposing existing military resources to accommodate the needs of our current service members. We talk about putting people first and I can proudly say this is exactly what it looks like.”

In 2007 Fort Sill selected Corvias to build, renovate, manage and maintain on-post family housing, with the company assuming responsibility in 2008. Since that time, the Fort Sill partnership has renovated 879 homes, delivered 512 new homes and demolished 108 homes that were beyond repair.

The newly renovated five-bedroom home that was converted from a duplex is designed to accommodate “todays modern military family with 2,500 square feet of modern amenities such as energy efficient appliances, said Sims.

“We have the mission here to provide the absolute best homes and the best resident services that we can,” said Sims. “These renovations are an example of innovative ways to reuse and to cut expense. So, to be able to repurpose an existing building for less than half the cost of a new build and provide a great home for larger family for a long time to come is something we’re very proud of.”
