HONOLULU -- The Hawaii Department of Education began distributing Federal Impact Aid survey forms or instructions on how to take the survey online to parents and guardians yesterday.
Each survey helps validate the eligibility of military-connected schools to received federal grants and programs.
Federal Impact Aid generates about $40 million each year for school transition centers, curriculum materials, substitute teachers and other programs to help provide quality educational experiences for our keiki.
The Federal Impact Aid Program Survey is designed to assist local school districts who have lost revenue due to Federal properties exemption from local property taxes.
Financial assistance is determined by calculating the concentration of students who reside on military bases, low-rent housing properties, Indian lands, and other Federal properties, have parents in the uniformed services, or have parents employed on eligible Federal properties.
In Hawai‘i, Federal Impact Aid helps offset costs for school materials and resources, substitute teachers, student transportation, school utilities such as electricity, and other services at schools statewide. All students and schools benefit from Impact Aid.
If you didn’t receive a survey or online survey instructions, please visit https://www.hawaiipublicschools.org/ParentsAndStudents/MilitaryFamilies/Pages/About-Impact-Aid.aspx or contact your child’s school. One survey should be completed for each school-aged child.
