FORT KNOX, Ky. — In an effort to better serve the customers at Fort Knox the Main Exchange has opened four self-checkout lanes.

Officials said they had to remove three checkout lanes previously in the space to provide the four lanes. However, the change increases the checkout lanes to seven compared to six prior.

Since opening up the self-checkout lanes July 28, store clerks the day after said the lanes have already proven effective at moving large numbers of customers through the buying process, especially during lunchtime.

Officials said for now those who wish to use self-checkout need to be aware that the registers only take the Military Star card as well as debit and credit cards. No cash purchases can be made on the machines nor can tobacco or alcohol products, gas, coupons or gift cards be purchased there.
