Sill breaks ground on new training complex

The Fort Sill landscape is changing to meet the needs of Army with a new Advanced Individual Training Complex. Leaders broke ground July 12 on the corner of Bragg Road and Thomas Street as Phase II of construction gets underway.

The first phase consisted of constructing two barracks, a battalion headquarters, and a running track for 1st Battalion, 78th Field Artillery. The second phase will consist of two additional barracks and one dining facility that will be constructed on the corner of Condon and Sheridan road.

"This project will provide our newest Soldiers fantastic living conditions in a safe environment," said Col. James Peay, Fort Sill Garrison commander. "It’s also a greater example of what right looks like in the military."

The mission of 1-78th Field Artillery is to train Soldiers to provide effective fire support in the following military occupational specialties: 13B, 13D, 13F, 13M, 13P, 13R, and 13T. Additionally, the battalion provides logistical and administrative suppor to 94M and 94S Soldiers.

The Garrison Command Team, Department of Public Works, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Harper Construction, as well as leaders from 428th Field Artillery Brigade and 1-78th Field Artillery turned the soil to commemorate the start of Phase II and the future of training at Fort Sill.
