The NCO Leadership Center of Excellence welcomed STRATCOM’s Senior Enlisted Leader, Marine Corps Sergeant Major, Howard Kreamer, May 12, for a day-long visit.
Kreamer spoke to Sergeants Major Course Class 72 students from the Department of Joint Interagency, Intergovernmental, Multinational Operations.
He told Class 72 about STRATCOM and its function in the military and the importance of that role in a rapidly changing political landscape. Kreamer told the Soldiers that rather than facing anti insurgency operations, future operations will face peers such as Russia and China who also maintain nuclear arms. These peer to peer operations and the threat of nuclear attacks will be the focus for the military planning in coming years.
“We focus on the entire planet,” Kreamer said. “Problems are no longer regional, almost all issues affect people worldwide.”
Kreamer also shared the STRATCOM perspective on national defense and the nature of maintaining a force of nuclear deterrence.
“Our moto is peace is our profession,” he said, “Most days at STRATCOM victory looks like nothing happened.”
To support the command’s ongoing mission of nuclear deterrence, a future priority will be upgrading America’s aging nuclear delivery systems.
After speaking to the class and answering questions, one of the classes representatives from the Marine Corps presented Kreamer with class 72 challenge coins.
STRATCOM is a joint command and consists of Army, Navy Air Force and Marine Corps service members totaling 150,000 personnel. STRATCOM is responsible for strategic deterrence and global strike capabilities for all aspects of the United States nuclear arsenal.
