CAMP WALKER, Republic of Korea — U.S. Army Garrison Daegu Garrison Commander Col. Brian P. Schoellhorn officially welcomed the first occupants of a new Army Family Housing tower during an opening ceremony April 4.
The newly-constructed Goguryeo Tower contains 90 apartments in total. It consists primarily of three-bedroom and four-bedroom apartments, with a limited number of five-bedroom units available as well. All apartments include ample storage space, new furniture and modern appliances.
The housing towers show the commitment of the Army and local leadership to the community's quality of life, said Schoellhorn. He went on to credit U.S. and Korean organizations and personnel both on and off the installation for bringing the project to fruition.
"This is due to the tireless work of your DPW team, the Housing Office, the Army Corps of Engineers Far East District and all of the contractors who work hand-in-hand to deliver what is a quality living experience for command-sponsored Families here."
The three Army Family Housing towers at Camp Walker are named after the three kingdoms of Korea: Goguryeo, Baekje and Shilla.
A fourth tower is currently being constructed next to Goguryeo Tower. It is slated to be named Kaya after a Korean confederacy kingdom which resided close to where Daegu City stands today.
