FORT KNOX, Ky. – The 2022 tax season kicked off at Fort Knox Jan. 21 with a ribbon cutting ceremony, marking the grand opening of the installation Tax Center.
Capt. Summer Prather, the Tax Center officer in charge, expressed her gratitude for the dedication her team has already put in.
“You guys have worked so hard these past couple weeks to get certified and to get ready to prepare people’s taxes,” said Prather.
Also in attendance was U.S. Army Cadet Command Deputy Commanding Officer Col. Maurice Barnett, who said he was encouraged when he looked around the room.
“I see representation from just about every command on this installation,” said Barnett. “That speaks volumes about the teamwork and things that go on here that make Fort Knox such a great place to serve.”
Fort Knox Staff Judge Advocate Col. Nathan Bankson spoke at the grand opening ceremony and offered the Soldiers a unique perspective as they begin working with the community processing returns.
“There is a great connection within the Army to interact with the past, and that is our retirees and veterans,” said Bankson. “They can maintain their bond with the Army through you. It really doesn’t happen anywhere else.”
Last year, the Fort Knox Tax Center processed over 2,200 tax returns in its office, which generated close to $1.7 million in refunds and saved patrons over $250,000 in filing fees.
