Co-led by the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command’s C5ISR Center and the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command’s Cyber Center of Excellence, Cyber Blitz is an experiment that informs the Army regarding how to perform evolving Cyber Electromagnetic Activities, or CEMA, across the full spectrum of operations.
Cyber Blitz 19 ran Sept. 4-22 at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ and was executed in conjunction with U.S. Army Pacific’s Orient Shield Exercise in Japan. This marked the first time that the Army combined field based experimentation with an Army service component command tier 1 exercise.
The experiment/exercise pairing gave more than 30 organizations from across the Army, Navy, Air Force and JGSDF a realistic first look at how the Intelligence, Information Cyber, Electronic Warfare and Space, or I2CEWS, formation could fight and win as part of a Multi-Domain Task Force. ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. — The Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) Center recently became the first Army organization to attain a prestigious quality management certification.
“The attainment of ISO 9001 certification status provides clear, conclusive and tangible evidence to our federal subscribers that the C5ISR Center operates at the highest level of technical standards,” said Greg Weaver, Cybersecurity Service Provider (CSSP) operations lead.
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 certification specifies requirements for a quality management system. The C5ISR Center’s certification level is the first among 27 Department of Defense and more than 100 federal CSSPs, network operations centers, security operations centers and cybersecurity integrity centers.
Established in 2001, the DOD CSSP program is responsible for provisioning fulltime cybersecurity services to protect and defend the DOD Information Network (DODIN).
The C5ISR Center CSSP recognized the need to leverage ISO standards to formalize a process to continually assess and improve the services it provisions to federal subscribers. The CSSP spent nearly one year fusing its Data Center Optimized (DCO) services with U.S. government requirements for cybersecurity and the proven ISO standard.
The team integrated DCO services with U.S. executive, national, federal, DOD, and Army cyber doctrine and requirements, as well as globally recognized ISO 9001 standards.
“The CSSP has become uniquely positioned to provision best-of-breed, regulatory-compliant and mission-ready DCO services that unlocked a new service delivery level that will soon change the expectations and requirements of the DOD and federal CSSP programs," said Bill Christman, C5ISR Center's DCSB chief.
The C5ISR Center has continued to provide strategic, operational and technical advancements for optimizing and modernizing U.S. Army and DOD DCO, Christman said. The organization has introduced operationally relevant innovations to the DOD CSSP Program that have changed the way the Army protects and defends the DOD portion of the cyberspace domain.
“This demonstrates our longstanding commitment for continuous improvement and optimization, as well as our ongoing pursuit of excellence for exceeding our subscriber's expectations,” noted Weaver. “Achieving an ISO 9001 certification means the C5ISR Center CSSP has achieved the highest form of CSSP DCO efficiency, effectiveness and productivity.”
