Long Island native Lt. Col. Omuso D. George took command of the New York City Recruiting Battalion at Fort Hamilton Bluff July 24. George comes to the assignment after completing one year as the Deputy Director for Resource Management, Gulf Region Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baghdad, Iraq.
George was valedictorian at Hempstead High School in 1987 and went on to graduate from the United States Military Academy in 1991. George also earned master's degrees in management information systems and education from Bowie State University and National Louis University.
The New York Recruiting Battalion is headquartered at Fort Hamilton. It employs more than 300 Soldiers and civilians recruiting from the New York City and Long Island areas.
George entered military service after graduating from West Point in 1991 and has served at Fort Bliss, Texas; Fort Riley, Kan.; Bad Kreuznach, Germany; Schwetzingen, Germany; Seoul, South Korea; the Pentagon and Iraq.
He is a graduate of the Air Defense Artillery Officer Basic Course, Finance Officer Advanced Course, Combined Arms Services Staff School, Military Accounting Course, Planning, Programming, Budgeting and Execution Systems Course, Advanced Management Accounting and Analysis Course and Command and General Staff College. George is a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and a Defense Financial Manager.
George's military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (3rd Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Army Staff Identification Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and the U.S. Army Finance Corps Regimental Towson Medallion for distinguished service.
George assumed command from Lt. Col. Paul J. Cook who will become chief of staff of 1st Army Recruiting Brigade at Fort Meade, Md.
