FORT KNOX, Ky. — Reporter-turned-author Owen Matthews will discuss his newest novel, RED TRAITOR, as part of Barr Memorial Library’s Virtual Authors at Your Library series Thursday, July 22, beginning at 6 p.m.
RED TRAITOR is a thriller set at the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Following KGB Lt. Col. Alexander Vasin and his struggles in a post-Stalinist system, RED TRAITOR takes place in a Soviet submarine off the Florida coastline.
As tensions fuel between the United States and Russia over hidden missiles, Vasin must engage in high-stakes espionage against a rival agency. With each submarine holding enough nuclear warheads to start the next world war, Vasin undergoes a grave chase to stop catastrophic events.
Inspired by real-life Soviet submarine commander Vasily Arkhipov, RED TRAITOR shows one of the world’s most chilling events through the Soviet lens. As a British journalist and author, Matthews spent years working in Moscow newsrooms and serving as Newsweek's bureau chief in both Istanbul and Moscow. Now, Matthews is a writer of numerous non-fiction books, including Stalin’s Children, Glorious Misadventures, and An Impeccable Sky.
