FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation is seeking works of art produced by the Fort Leonard Wood community for the upcoming Taste of the Arts show. To help ignite that artistic spark, FMWR will kick off “Inspire Your Heart With Art Day” Sunday on its Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/mwr.ftwood.

“The Facebook page will tell viewers that this is a great time to start or finish your masterpiece, and then enter it in the Taste of the Arts gallery event,” explained LoraLee Neubeck with the FMWR Installation Wide Events office. “This virtual event is being held to start the buzz on the Taste of the Arts.”

Neubeck said the focus of Sunday’s promotion is the power art has to capture attention, ease the mind and motivate those who see it. Visitors to the Facebook page will be encouraged to let FMWR know what inspires them.

The Taste of the Arts is scheduled for Feb. 19. Depending on COVID-19 mitigation measures in place at that time, the event will be held either at the Pershing Community Center or virtually on the Facebook page.

“We are poised to execute the gallery either in person or virtually,” Neubeck said.

The Taste of the Arts is open to artists ages 5 and older. Accepted works of art will include drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, woodworking and jewelry design. Entry fees are $10 for adults and $5 for school-age children from 5 to 18.

Entries will be accepted starting Monday through Feb. 17.

All entries must be original and will be divided into four categories based on the ages of the artists: kindergarten through the second grade, grades three through six, grades seven through 12 and adults. All entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges.

Winners will be announced at the event and on Facebook.

Prizes will be awarded to the winner in each category.
