MADIGAN ARMY MEDICAL CENTER, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. – On December 16, 2020 Madigan began vaccinating prioritized groups like front-line health care workers and JBLM emergency services personnel with the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. We are following the Department of Defense’s phased distribution plan for administering the limited supply of vaccine first to prioritized groups of our population with a high risk of exposure or potential to interface with COVID-19 positive cases.

This means that although other facilities, organizations, or the state may be more widely providing vaccinations to those outside these prioritized groups, Madigan is not yet doing so in compliance with the DoD distribution plan, our supply, and our volume of prioritized individuals to be vaccinated.

We are eager to vaccinate as much of our population as possible, however, given the limited manufacturer supply, the COVID-19 vaccine is currently not available to Madigan’s general patient population at this time. We are making the first inroads into the next phase of distribution by preparing to immunize high-risk patients should they choose to receive it once we are supplied with sufficient vaccine.

We would like to reassure the JBLM community that as we receive more doses of the vaccine and progress through the risk phases and prioritized groups outlined by the DoD, vaccination will ultimately be offered to all Madigan beneficiaries, including military family members and retirees.

Until vaccine production moves into wider distribution and is available to all of our patients, we ask that in addition to following the Madigan Facebook page at www.facebook.com/MadiganHealth for updates, please call the dedicated COVID-19 Vaccine Hotline at 253-968-4744 for the latest updates on the COVID-19 vaccine availability.

Thank you for your interest in the COVID-19 vaccine and joining the fight to achieve herd immunity and move past this pandemic.  Please practice the 3 W’s: Wear your mask. Wash your hands frequently. Watch your distance. We are all in this together: Stay informed, stay vigilant and stay healthy!
