FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — In 1775, members of the Second Continental Congress met at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia to prepare for the Revolutionary War. On Nov. 10, they passed the Continental Marine Act establishing two Marine battalions to fight for U.S. independence.
This week, we celebrate the United States Marine Corps’ 245th birthday — a day dedicated to every warrior privileged to wear the eagle, globe and anchor.
Highly skilled Marines have always been ready to meet any challenge or foe. From the Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli, the Marine Corps has earned a privileged place in our national history through every American conflict from the Revolutionary War to the Global War on Terror. Their unique ability to fight across the land, sea and air is critical in today’s multi-domain environment.
Here at Fort Leonard Wood, we have served side-by-side with our esteemed Marine Corps teammates for more than 46 years, when we began training their engineers. Our relationship has only grown over the past half-century with the expansion of the Marine Corps Detachment and critical training that enables mission success for Marines and joint forces around the globe.
We are proud to serve with our Marine Corps teammates. Happy birthday, Marines and Semper Fidelis!
Victory starts here . . . Victory through skill!
