TRICARE Open Season

TRICARE Open Season starts today through December 14, 2020. During TRICARE Open Season, you can enroll in or change your health care coverage for the next year.

Bridget Stroud, TRICARE Contract Liaison, Resource Management Division at Lyster Army Health Clinic, explained “This is the time to evaluate your situation and choose the healthcare program that will best meet your family’s needs. You can only enroll in or change enrollment to TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Select after a Qualifying Life Event (QLE) or during the annual TRICARE Open Season. If you don’t make the changes during the TRICARE Open Season you will have to continue with your current program status for the next year. If you want to change programs, Open Season is the time to do it. However, you can purchase premium-based plans such as TRICARE Reserve Select, TRICARE Retired Reserve, TRICARE Young Adult, and the Continued Health Care Benefit Program at any time.”

Stroud continued to explain, “Some changes that beneficiaries should be aware of the TRICARE Prime ADFM plan has stayed the same and the TRICARE Prime Retiree program has a few rate increases. The major change is that the TRICARE Select Group A program now has an enrollment fee. The enrollment fee is in addition to the deductible and cost shares for health care visits. If you are currently in TRICARE Select Group A and want to continue in that program you must enroll, otherwise, you’ll only be able to get care from a military hospital or clinic if space is available. This means that all civilian healthcare costs will be your full responsibility.”
