Carlisle Barracks, Pa. (Sept. 17, 2020) – Sgt. Nathanael Dye, U.S. Army War College Memorial Chapel, and SPC Scotty Hong, Dunham U.S. Army Health Clinic, respectively, earned the titles of Noncommissioned Officer and Soldier of the Year for Carlisle Barracks during a first-ever on Carlisle Barracks competition.
Five enlisted Soldiers from across the installation competed against their peers during the 2020 Best Warrior Challenge on Indian Field, Sept. 3, 2020. The challenge pushed the Soldiers physically and mentally under stressful conditions and tested their combat readiness and mental agility.
"Congratulations to all the Soldiers who competed," said Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Carden. "Everyone displayed great character, discipline, and esprit de corps, and each represented their unit and Carlisle Barracks exceptionally well. The future of our Army is definitely in great hands!"
Judges scored the competitors during a series of four events: A modified Army Combat Fitness Test, a Tactical Combat Casualty Care Lane and Map Reading event, a Stress Test that involved a half-mile run, a 50-meter Skedco drag, 50-meter ammo can carry, 25-meter high crawl, and a timed disassembly, assembly, and function check of an M9 pistol and M4 rifle. The competition concluded with a General Knowledge Board based on the NCO Guide TC 7-22.7.
Other competitors during the first-ever event were SPC. Jacolby Kearse, Public Health Command, Dover Branch, SPC. Mason Secrest, Carlisle Barracks Dental Clinic, and Sgt. Yaul Hernandez, Dunham U.S. Army Health Clinic.
