FORT STEWART, Ga. </B>Division Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division conducted a Mission Rehearsal Exercise to prepare for an October deployment, June 14-26. The battalion was evaluated by a team from the Battle Command Training Program, Fort Leavenworth, Kan., who used the evaluation to determine STB's readiness for deployment.
Sergeant 1st Class James Rideout, the noncommissioned officer in charge of the Operation Group Delta, BCTP, observes command level units during exercises to see if they are up to standards for upcoming deployments. The program conducts and evaluates battle drills in a simulated stressful combat environment.
DSTB was judged on its reaction to events in a simulated combat environment. Sgt. 1st Class Rideout said DSTB was one of the best and most efficient units he evaluated.
"Third Infantry Division did excellent," he said. "The division staff is filled with experienced veterans. They're going to proudly serve 3rd ID."
The exercise included a mass casualty evaluation exercise, which had troops locating and evacuating injured comrades on helicopters from the 3rd ID Combat Aviation Brigade.
Sergeant Major Timothy Stanley, the 3rd ID Operations sergeant major, declared the exercise a success because the battalion used teamwork to complete its mission.
Sergeant Major Stanley also said the exercise was important for the younger Soldiers because they got the chance to witness and participate in a division level operation with many pieces coming together.
The exercise ended with a visit from Gen. George W. Casey, Jr., the Chief of Staff of the Army. He thanked the troops for their hard work and dedication. Before Gen. Casey left, the battalion sang the Dog Face Soldier song for him.
Sergeant First Class Rideout said the exercise was a success because of the Soldiers' great attitude. "They want to do the right things and get the job done," he said.
