Maj. Gen. Daniel R. Walrath, commanding general, U.S. Army South, attended a Peruvian Army history brief to commemorate the 199th anniversary of Ejército del Perú, or Army of Peru, Aug. 18 at the Army South Main Conference Room. Lt. Col. David Esteban Diaz Janampa, partner nation liaison officer, U.S. Army South, presented remarks to highlight the Peruvian Army as it was officially established Aug. 18, 1821 when the government of General José de San Martín established the Legión Peruana de la Guardia (Peruvian Guard Legion). In 1827, the U.S. established diplomatic relations with Peru, and today the U.S. and Peru’s strategic partnership continues to enhance security and prosperity across the region to collectively meet complex global challenges.
