WIESBADEN, Germany – The U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden Directorate of Emergency Services will host a First Responders Day Aug. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Military Police and Fire Station on Clay Kaserne.

The day will begin with a Law Enforcement Torch Run at 6:30 a.m. through Clay Kaserne, beginning and ending at Bldg. 1001. All community members are invited to run, jog or walk along the approximately two-mile route while MP and fire vehicles sound their sirens.

Following the run, an open house in Bldg. 1001 will showcase all of DES’ law enforcement and fire and emergency service vehicles. McGruff the Crime Dog, Sparky the Fire Dog, real military working dogs and the military police’s partners, the Polizei, and their vehicles will be there.

“It's an opportunity to give thanks to the community for their tremendous support in ensuring a safe and secure environment, especially during this pandemic,” said Lt. Col. Edwin Escobar, director of Emergency Services for the garrison.

Free lunch of hotdogs, hamburgers, chips and soda will be provided by the USO, and 100 free ice cream cones will be provided by DES leadership.

If weather permits, children will have the chance to meet first responders, get fingerprinted, see a K9 demonstration and dunk a cop.

COVID-19 mitigation measures will be in place during the event. The number of attendees will be kept below 250, frequently touched surfaces will be disinfected throughout the day and social distancing will be enforced with marked lines to wait for services, food and attractions.
