FORT SILL, Oklahoma (June 25, 2020) -- The Fort Sill PXtra reopened June 23, after about one year of renovations. Fort Sill Exchange General Manager Don Walter helped cut the ribbon to celebrate the event.
“This is for the Fort Sill community, it’s one of two one-stop shopping facilities,” Walter said. Across the parking lot there is the Fort Sill Main Exchange.
The PXtra includes Qdoba Mexican Eats restaurant; Military Clothing and Sales Store (MC&SS); Stripes Alterations; laundry and dry cleaning services; and a three-chair barbershop. There are Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) administrative offices and warehouse space, too.
The relocated Military Clothing and Sales Store is 4,000 square feet larger than the previous facility, and features a larger inventory of military-issue clothing, including Marine items, and accessories, as well as souvenirs, said Mary Campbell, MC&SS facilities manager. “We’ve also expanded our combat boots selection with more brands and sizes.”
The alterations shop is more than 50 percent larger. The court area also features expanded restrooms.
For Advanced Individual Training Soldiers, the PXtra is a special shop where they can get their hair cut, buy uniforms and accessories, get alterations, and grab a healthy meal, Walter said.
Qdoba is something new and it offers a healthy eating choice for patrons, said Lori Allen, Fort Sill Food Court manager.
Fort Sill Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Russell Blackwell also assisted with the festivities. He said the renovations are part of modernizing the post.
“It’s part of improving the overall performance and services we offer at Fort Sill,” Blackwell said. “It will have a great impact on Soldiers, families, and retirees. Number one, it gives more choices; Number two, it gives them better facilities; and Number three, it supports the future of the new Army, which is hiring 10,000 new Soldiers between now and July 2.”
Next year, the PXtra is scheduled to add a civilian dental clinic, a durable medical equipment store, and Sarku Japanese restaurant, which will be next to Qdoba.
