Students at Belvoir's Primary and Upper schools got a surprise, Monday afternoon, when Col. Michael Greenberg, garrison commander, stopped by to read Dr. Seuss' "I Can Read with my Eyes Shut" to select groups of first- and fourth-graders.
Jamey Chianetta, upper school principal, and Margo Dias-Pareja, primary school principal, escorted Greenberg to the classrooms where he read to the students and answered questions.
The visit was part of the Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss Day, which recognizes the birthday of the author of Dr. Seuss books, Theodor Seuss Geisel.
In a message celebrating the national event, President Donald Trump wrote, "Read Across America Day is a celebration of the joys of literacy and an important reminder that we must make every effort to ensure that our nation's children receive the necessary education in reading and writing, to cultivate the skills they need to pursue their American Dream."
