JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas (Feb. 25, 2020) -- Almost 60 contracting leaders from across the Mission and Installation Contracting Command are in San Antonio this week for discussions on a variety of key acquisition topics and training lasting through Feb. 28.
The annual training event serves as an essential professional, consolidated and face-to-face venue for MICC senior contracting officers and directors from the command's headquarters, two contracting support brigades, two field directorates, 30 contracting offices and nine battalions.
Brig. Gen. Christine Beeler, the MICC commanding general, kicked off the acquisition training Feb. 25 with opening remarks and encouraged active and effective participation in group settings and breakouts throughout the week.
"Coming together as leaders to discuss our contracting priorities, identify challenges and leverage best practices is vital in delivering the best acquisition support to our mission partners and the Army," Beeler said.
The remainder of the week includes a variety of policy and guidance briefings by staff on topics including military force structure changes, mobilization and power projection platform support, acquisition management tools, category management, small business goals, contract protest trends, leadership development program, human capital strategic plan, and succession planning. Also, leaders from the Installation Management Command are taking part in a panel this week to discuss various topics to include savings initiatives through contract management reviews and standard levels of service.

Headquartered at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, Texas, the Mission and Installation Contracting Command consists of about 1,500 military and civilian members who are responsible for contracting goods and services in support of Soldiers as well as readying trained contracting units for the operating force and contingency environment when called upon. MICC contracts are vital in feeding more than 200,000 Soldiers every day, providing many daily base operations support services at installations, facilitate training in the preparation of more than 100,000 conventional force members annually, training more than 500,000 students each year, and maintaining more than 14.4 million acres of land and 170,000 structures.
