Sept. 11 Patriot Day observance planned at Fort Knox

Fort Knox will honor 9/11 victims during its annual Patriot Day ceremony in front of the post headquarters at 8:15 a.m. Sept. 11.

The event will feature a presentation by the winner of the Fort Knox High School Patriot Day essay competition and the singing of Amazing Grace by the Fort Knox High School choir. There will also be a ceremonial tolling of the Fort Knox Fire Station's bell and a wreath laying.

The ceremony will close with a 21-gun salute and the playing of taps. The keynote speaker will be Maj. Gen. John Evans Jr., commanding general of U.S. Army Cadet Command and Fort Knox.

The event is open to the general public. Directional signs to the event will be posted from Chaffee (main) Gate.
