ABERDEEN, Md. - Members of the Army Contracting Command -- Aberdeen Proving Ground shared some comradery while supporting a local food bank on Aug. 13. Nearly 15 members of one of the center's divisions (Division C, Branch 2) met at Harford County's Community Action Food Bank/Food Pantry to support community members in need.
The idea for the event and lead organizer was Chris Gaines, contracting officer and team lead. "We came together for a team building event, but in the process we made a positive impact on the community," Gaines pointed out. "It was a good feeling!"
During their four hours of community service at the food bank, the team received 14 pallets of donated food and distributed the items to 10 organizations who partner with the Harford Community Action Agency, according to Gaines. As the trucks rolled in, the ACC team loaded various food supplies based on a list provided by the food bank. Each member also packaged food items to be distributed to individuals and families supported by the food bank.
"At the end of the day, the team felt great with what we accomplished," said Gaines. "As we were leaving the food bank, the office was filled with people applying for help and it was gratifying knowing that we helped to provide food support to so many people in the community."
