MADIGAN ARMY MEDICAL CENTER, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. -- The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) at Madigan Army Medical Center is taking steps to provide more efficient and prompt care to patients. Madigan's OB/GYN provides a complete range of women's healthcare from initial menses to beginning of motherhood and continuing on through menopause and after.
"In order to provide more timely care for our patients and minimize staffing impacts, the OB/GYN Department is changing the way we address important but non-emergency concerns starting in August," said Lt. Col. Melissa Grant, M.D., chief of Madigan's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Madigan's OB/GYN is now offering a new, dedicated Clinic Nurse Triage Line and promoting the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal to maximize available resources to provide innovative and prompt support to its patients. Patients can now call and speak with a Madigan OB/GYN nurse via phone and even request a same day appointment, if needed.
Some patients may reach a recording during times when the nurse is helping other patients, however patients should leave a detailed message, which will be returned within 24-48 hours.
"All patients will be triaged (evaluated) by a highly-skilled nurse via our OB/GYN Department Nurse Triage Line, which will allow patients to talk directly to a nurse or to leave a message when nursing staff are assisting other patients. Then, in consultation with a physician, our nurses will address concerns and order appropriate testing or medication; or if necessary schedule an appointment with a member of our care team often within the next 24 to 48 hours," added Grant.
For patients seeking a same-day response to their pregnancy concerns, accessing the MHS GENESIS patient portal to message the clinic directly is an even faster way to get a response to any OB/GYN healthcare inquiries. The MHS GENESIS Patient Portal puts you in control of your health care. It gives you secure access to your electronic medical record 24/7, and allows you to reach out to your Madigan health care team when and where it's convenient for you. It's available on your computer, tablet or smartphone. The MHS GENESIS Patient Portal replaces TRICARE Online Secure Messaging, and Change Healthcare/RelayHealth, while you receive care at Madigan Army Medical Center.
"We hope using these methods will minimize wait times and improve patient satisfaction in respect to how we address urgent concerns," said Grant.
