Defense Acquisition University convenes Detroit Arsenal leadership seminar

The Defense Acquisition University Senior Service College Fellowship Seminar Class of '20 commenced for Detroit Arsenal senior leaders on July 22.

The Detroit Arsenal Seminar fellows include Phil Burton, Erik Kallio, Jason Middleton, Elizabeth Miller, and Kenny Wong. The fellowship prepares board-selected Army senior civilians in the grades of GS 14-15 or their equivalents to lead Army acquisition and sustainment organizations.

The fellowship's graduate-level curriculum includes leadership, national security, guest speakers, executive level mentoring, staff visits to military organizations and combatant commands, research, and courses in senior program management and acquisition leadership.

The Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology organized the seminar in partnership with the Defense Acquisition University, U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command, and Lawrence Technological University. In 2013, the Army recognized SSCF as equivalent to the Army War College, and granted it Military Education Level 1, or MEL-1 status.

Dr. Valerie Devries, TACOM's Deputy Chief of Staff for Human Capital was on hand as TACOM and Army representative to welcome this year's class to the seminar. Also on hand to welcome and provide orientation to the students were DAU's Midwest Region Associate Dean, Carl Hayden, DAU Detroit Arsenal Seminar Director Deborah DiCesare, LTU President and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Virinder Moudgill, LTU Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost, Dr. Maria Vaz, Dean of College Business and Information Technology, Dr. Bahman Mirshab, and LTU Business Programs, Mina Jena.
