Tobyhanna Army Depot employees use words like dynamic, committed, eager, and role model to describe colleagues who are great at their jobs.
Sharon Calpin and Steven Perrego were recently named Tobyhanna Army Depot Employees of the Quarter for the second quarter, in the junior and senior categories, respectively. Calpin works as a secretary in the Production Management Directorate's ISR Program Management Division. Perrego is a general equipment mechanic leader assigned to the Systems Integration and Support Directorate's C4ISR Finishing Division.
The nature of Perrego's job keeps him on the move. As a rule he spends about 70 percent of the year working in faraway locations supporting the Mobile Depot Maintenance Program (MDM). The armed forces budget millions of dollars annually to protect critical military assets from the elements. Tobyhanna collaborates with active duty, Guard and Reserve officials to identify stationary assets that require corrosion control prevention or maintenance. Perrego leads field teams that usually consists of four specialists selected from a list of volunteers.
"I do my best for Tobyhanna, our team members and the warfighter," Perrego said, explaining that in addition to scheduling and performing work outside the depot's gates, he arranges for and ships the tools necessary for his team to do their job. "It's a privilege to work with people who are committed to getting programs up and running here and at forward locations."
The 10-year depot veteran has executed more than 50 missions in support of Army, Navy and Air Force assets in the field, according to David Bainbridge, Structural Repair Branch chief. Perrego's skills and expertise have proved invaluable to CECOM as the C5ISR Lifecycle Analysis Team (C-LAT) program gets underway, he added.
"Perrego is a true role model to his coworkers and the teams he leads on forward missions," Bainbridge said. "His strong work ethic and can-do attitude has a positive effect on everyone he meets. Customers often remark on his professional attitude and attention to detail."
A career in the administrative support field has opened doors to a myriad of job opportunities for one three-year Tobyhanna professional. Coworkers say her innovative approach to duties and responsibilities improve the day-to-day flow of the organization.
Calpin expertly executes her administrative duties for a dynamic and fast-paced division of 55 personnel, according to Jessica Carter, ISR Program Management Division chief. The admin expert reviews more than dozen visitor requests each month and ensures suspense's meet both quality and schedule requirements, she said.
"Sharon exemplifies Army core values, specifically selfless service via her daily interactions with others," Carter said. "She is a consummate employee who regularly takes on additional duties, often of her own initiative and always with an eagerness to support the warfighter."
Coworkers describe Sharon as a people person. They attribute the division's enhanced readiness posture to her ability to get the best out of others.
"I can always count on my coworkers," Calpin said. "We work at a great organization. There are a lot of opportunities here to grow in your career through experience and professional development."
Calpin is known for always putting her best foot forward in any given situation. She credits confidence and self-esteem with playing a major role in the how individuals present themselves and others perceive them.
"It's important to always do your best and try not to beat yourself up about mistakes," Calpin said. "Live from day to day. The experiences we encounter during our career are lessons learned for the future."
