To coincide with National Volunteer Week April 7-13, the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Directorate of Personnel and Family Readiness will celebrate current volunteers and recruiting new ones. The weeklong celebration features the annual Joint Base Lewis-McChord Volunteer Fair.

The volunteer fair takes place at Stone Education Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 11. It's designed to not only assist various organizations on JBLM and in the surrounding community in recruitment, but to also offer opportunities for the military community to improve their job skills and resumes all while making a difference.

Some of the organizations represented include; the Lewis Community Spouses' Club, The Fort Lewis Family Member Scholarship Fund, the Red Cross, Girl Scouts, and the Lewis Army Museum, according to Lori Parker, program manager for the installation Volunteer Corps, Directorate of Personnel and Family Readiness Family Resource Center.

"Volunteering in general really creates a positive effect on the community," Parker said. "There are many services that would not be here without our volunteers. Every single day, a volunteer touches someone in our community in a positive way."

In addition to the volunteer fair, the following events are scheduled for the week:
• Cookie Social -- Waller Hall, JBLM Main, 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m., April 8;
