REDSTONE ARSENAL, Al. -- The U.S. Army Contracting Command -- Aberdeen Proving Ground - Natick Contracting Division, on behalf of the U.S. Army Unmanned Aircraft Systems Project Office, awarded two contracts March 28, to Martin UAV, LLC (Plano, Texas) and Textron, AAI Corporation (Hunt Valley, Maryland) for non-developmental Group 2/3 Unmanned Aircraft Systems, initial spares, and associated contractor logistics support.

Each award will be an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract with a maximum contract value of $99,500,000.00 and a three-year ordering period. The U.S. Army will use these systems for demonstrations within U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs) in support of the Future Vertical Lift Cross-Functional Team.

"The Army is making great strides in developing informed requirements for the RQ-7 Shadow replacement for our Brigade Combat Teams. Following a very competitive "fly-off" the selected air vehicles will be placed in Soldier's hands as the Army embraces a "Buy, Try, Decide" approach to ensure we develop the capabilities our BCTs need. This is a great example of innovative and effective teamwork between the Future Vertical Lift CFT, PEO-Aviation, and Army Contracting Command to streamline the process to get superior capability to operational units faster while saving time and funding," said Gen. John Murray, Commanding General, Army Futures Command.

The Army Futures Command, Future Vertical Lift Cross-Functional Team is focused on enhancing next generation aviation assets that provide increased reach, protection, lethality, effectiveness, agility and mission flexibility.
