U.S. Army Recruiting Command to host tryouts for new fitness team

The U.S. Army Recruiting Command's search for the Army's fittest Soldiers is underway, and tryouts for the U.S. Army Warrior Fitness Team will be held Feb. 8-10 here.USAREC's command team, Maj. Gen. Frank. Muth and Command Sgt. Maj. Tabitha Gavia, began this initiative as part of the Army's desire to increase outreach and recruiting efforts and create a more personal connection with the American people.USAREC received over 350 applications from U.S. Soldiers all over the world. The application packet detailed fitness competition finishes over the past three years, current training program, an essay titled "How can I contribute to the U.S. Army Fitness Team," and various evaluations.Of the 350 Soldiers who applied, the top 27 were selected to attend the team tryouts, which will span three days and consist of three workouts as well as individual interviews.All submissions were reviewed by staff in the Commanding Generals Initiative Group."The selection process was tough," said First Sgt. Glenn Grabs, U.S. Army Warrior Fitness Team. "We received a solid pool of athletes to choose from. I wasn't the least bit surprised, though. All of these applicant are Soldiers. I expected it to be tough."The team selection will be announced on the last day of tryouts.Soldiers selected for the team will be part of the USAREC Marketing & Engagement Brigade and stationed at Fort Knox for three years. In addition to fitness competitions, the team members will participate in outreach engagements and regularly interact with the public as Army ambassadors.
