Mr. John S. Willison is the Deputy to the Commanding General of the U.S. Army Combat Capabilties Development Command (CCDC), having assumed that role when the Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM) became the CCDC upon transition into the Army Futures Command on Feb. 3, 2019. Prior to that, Willison had served the same role within RDECOM since October, 2017.

As the Deputy to the Commanding General, he provides strategic direction for the organization and serves as a catalyst for research, development and engineering initiatives across the command.

Willison was appointed to the Senior Executive Service in August 2011. In his prior assignment, he served as Director, Space and Terrestrial Communications Directorate, U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center at Aberdeen Proving Ground. His first assignment as an SES was from August 2011 to April 2015 as Director, Command, Power & Integration Directorate, U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center (CERDEC), at Aberdeen Proving Ground.

Willison has over 32 years of government service. His prior assignments include a range of positions in Program Executive Office Communications, Command, and Control Tactical (PEO C3T) Project Manager Battle Command (PM BC), CERDEC, and Communications-Electronics Command Software Engineering Center (CECOM SEC).

Willison's educational achievements include a Master of Science degree in Software Engineering from Monmouth College, N.J., in 1992; and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Lafayette College, Pa., in 1986. He trained as a Senior Executive Fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, in 2006. In February 2017, he completed the Executive Coaching for Organization Well Being program at George Mason University, and he is a certified professional coach.

Willison has Level III Certification in Systems Engineering in the Army Acquisition Corps.

His awards and honors include: U.S. Army Infantry Association's Order of St. Maurice in 2011; Federal 100 Award in 1996; and Federal Technology Leadership Award in 1995.
