Military youngsters and Team Redstone children have the opportunity to learn from some of the best football players in the world.

The Atlanta Falcons will bring a youth skills camp to the Redstone Activity Field, Nov. 8 from 6-8:30 p.m. The non-contact event is for ages 7-13.

"I think it's a great opportunity to get some professional instruction," Mike Gates, youth sports director, said. "It's my understanding it's going to be NFL players, retired. Where else will you get that kind of instruction?"

The family-oriented outreach is part of the Falcons' "Salute to Service." The professional football organization has conducted similar events at other military posts.

"We are honored that the Atlanta Falcons reached out to us to host this event as part of their Salute to Service," Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Billy Counts said. "Events like these highlight the importance of Redstone Arsenal to the Tennessee Valley area."

"No contact, it's just skills training," Julie Frederick, Garrison public affairs officer, said.

The camp is run by retired Atlanta Falcons football players who are part of the nonprofit Atlanta Falcons Youth Program and Kids and Pros Program. They include Buddy Curry, Bobby Butler, Robert Moore, Evan Cooper, Floyd Hodge, Ken Oxendine and Eric Matthews. They usually bring about 6-7 of their staff members as well.
