VICENZA, Italy -- The most popular holiday of the year here is almost upon us!

It's Halloween in Vicenza, and the garrison is gearing up for it with several activities for community members.

Events kick off Oct. 18, as youth ages 7 to 18 are invited to participate in the Child & Youth Services Sports Zombie Run. The run will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Villaggio Youth Center sports entrance. The run is a 1 1/2-mile race with obstacles; runners will wear flags (think flag football) and have to stay alive -- away from the zombies -- by keeping their flags. Prizes will be awarded to humans and zombies. Make sure to register today at Parent Central Services or on WebTrac.

SpookFest

On Oct. 26, a hauntingly good time comes to Hoekstra Field on Caserma Ederle with SpookFest, hosted by Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 207th Military Intelligence Brigade. All community members are invited to stop by from 4:30 to 9 p.m. for a fun-filled event. Activities include trunk-or-treat, costume contests, pumpkin carving, games and prizes, food and beverages, and a haunted house. More volunteers to help with the event are welcome. Contact the 207th HHC Family Readiness Group via email at hhc207thfrg@gmail.com, or call 349-619-9367.

Trick-or-Treating

Trick-or-treating on Villaggio and the USO Carnival of Thrills take place Oct. 31, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Both events are open to ID cardholders, pre-registered guests, local national employees and their immediate family members. The rules for entry, per the U.S. Army Garrison Italy Directorate of Emergency Services and S3/5/7 are as follows:

• No need for U.S. and local national ID cardholders to pre-register themselves and their immediate family members.

• U.S. ID cardholders with sign-in privileges may sponsor two adult parents and their children. Local national ID cardholders may only sponsor immediate family members (no pass required).

• U.S. ID cardholders requesting to sponsor guests must complete and submit AE Form 190-16F to Pass and Badge Office, Bldg. 4B on Caserma Ederle, or via email at usarmy.usag-Italy.usag.list.usag-vicenza-des-iacs@mail.mil. Email subject line must read "Trick-or-Treat 2018."

• Guests must be registered no later than Oct. 26 at 5 p.m.

• Temporary passes will be available for pickup Oct. 29-31 at the Pass and Badge Office. For more information, call DSN 634-7053.

Shuttle bus service will be available to families staying in the Ederle Inn. Service will run from the Inn to Villaggio Main Gate at 6:15 p.m. The bus will stage at Villaggio and return at the conclusion of the event. Parking for Villaggio residents and guests will be provided at the Vicenza Elementary/Middle School and Child Development Center parking lots. Otherwise, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., vehicle traffic is limited to designated routes to and from parking areas. The only exception will be for emergency vehicles.

Flyers will be on the doors to identify those residences in the housing area that are participating in trick-or-treating. Visitors are asked not to trick-or-treat at a home where there is no flyer on the door. Anyone who would like to donate candy to Villaggio residents may drop off donations at the Ederle library.

Visitors are not allowed to have the following items during the event: bikes, scooters, skateboards, hover boards, pets, coolers, bottles, or other glass containers. Strollers, wagons and carriages are allowed for infant care only. Questions may be directed to the Installation Operations Center at DSN 637-8035, comm. 0444-61-8035.

Other events

USO's Carnival of Thrills will take place 7-10 p.m. at Unit 222 on Villaggio, next to the pool. Rules for participation are the same as above. The carnival will include a haunted house, goodies for children, picture-taking area and clowns. Join USO Vicenza for thrills, chills and fun.

Adults-only events on Halloween include a BOSS dodge ball tournament, 7 p.m., at the Caserma Del Din Fitness Center, and Warrior Zone Halloween Party, also at 7 p.m., on Caserma Del Din. Unit-specific parties not open to the entire community are not included in this lineup of Halloween events.
