Tower Tour

Every Sunday, 10:30 a.m., Proloco Scarperia (Florence), Palazzo dei Vicari. Every Sunday, it is possible to request a special ticket to climb the ancient tower of the castle. The fee is €6 for adults and €3 for children. The visit will take place with a minimum of four participants and maximum of 12. Includes visit to the archives and a walk on the merlons. Siege at the Villa -- Historical reenactment

Sept. 14-16, 5-11 p.m., Poggio Caiano (Prato); Piazza dei Medici, Via Cancellieri, and Via Caiani. This event commemorates the visit of Princess Joan of Austria on her way to marry Grand Duke Francesco de' Medici in 1565. Renaissance-style market, musicians, shows with falconers, flag-throwers, magicians, fire-eaters and jugglers. Free wine tasting; food booths feature typical Renaissance dishes and other local specialties.

Historical reenactment

Sept. 15-16, Montopoli Val D'Arno (Pisa), Piazza Catruccio Castracani. Ancient medieval market, flag-throwers, storytellers, swords duels. Food stands feature local and medieval specialties. Archers come from all over Italy to perform spectacular precision shots.

Sept. 20-23, Sept. 28-30, Oct. 5-7 and Oct. 12-14, Certaldo (Florence), Viale Matteotti 201. Food booths featuring many local specialties open for dinner and, on Sundays, also for lunch starting at 12:30 p.m.

Corri la Vita

Run for Life

Sept. 30, Florence. Join a 6.2 km or 11 km run through the beautiful city of Florence. Corri la Vita is an annual event created to foster awareness and to contribute to the public health system of Florence with treatment and research of breast cancer. Register from now to Sept. 27 for €10 per person at corrilavita.it. Arrive early to the entrance gates in Piazza Vittorio Veneto for warming and be ready at 9:30 a.m. for your run/walk. The award ceremony will take place at noon on stage in the piazza. The event will take place all day; enjoy the fitness area, street food and cultural destinations. Entrance fee includes bib number and t-shirt donated by Salvatore Ferragamo.

Man Ray -- Wonderful Visions

Through Oct. 7, 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m., San Gimignano, Modern Art Gallery, Via Folgore da San Gimignano; 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m. through Sept. 30; 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Oct. 1-7. On display are more than 100 photos by Man Ray, one of the most important photographers of the 20th century. His photographic works encompass fashion, portraits and technical experimentation. Entrance fee: €9, reduced €7 for children ages 6-17 and for senior citizens older than 65; free access for children younger than six.
