Fort Hood, TX - Task Force Odin may not be the biggest unit on Fort Hood, but it is an effective combat multiplier as they patrol the skies over hostile regions, helping to ensure the safety of American troops and their allies. On Friday, May 8th, they provided a different kind of life-giving support by donating blood to the Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP) at one of its 22 blood donor centers worldwide, the Robertson Blood Center. Among those donating was Private Brandon Martin, a generator mechanic assigned to the task force mostly comprised of aviators.
"We found out about this blood drive from our commander at formation. I wanted to come down and help my brothers and sisters downrange," said Brandon, a native of Orange Park, Florida. "I'll be back in soon, right before we deploy."
Although it smaller than a standard aviation battalion on Fort Hood, Task Force Odin scheduled a group drive and made a solid appearance at the blood drive. The unit coordinator, Sergeant Steven Valencia worked with both his command channel and the military blood program's online tools and donor relation management applications to increase participation. This participation helped the donor center fulfill its goal of smaller, more regular blood drives. This aids in the blood program's goal of delivering blood and blood products to overseas contingency operations by the fifth day after collection.
