The recently published ADP 7-0 (Training) combines the 2012 versions of ADP 7-0 and Army Doctrine Reference Publication (ADRP) 7-0 into a single manual as part of an overall Army doctrine realignment initiative.
This publication is the foundation doctrine for Army Training and aligns with the Field Manual 7-0, Train to Win in a Complex World. "It just made sense to get ahead in this process," said Colonel Stuart Smith, Director of the Training Management Directorate. "Given that operational proficiency is primarily achieved through quality training, knowing how to effectively plan and execute training before determining the operational tasks to train is the key to success."
TMD is one of the first proponents to bring their doctrinal publications into compliance with the directed re-alignment. ADP 7-0 complements FM 7-0, Train to Win in a Complex World (2016), which aid Leaders in developing solid Training programs. "Both manuals are companion documents and should be your go-to source for understanding Army training," said Mr. Bill Brosnan, TMD Doctrine author.
A few of the key updates in the new ADP 7-0 are:
- The definition and use of MET/METL now align with FM 7-0 (2016).
- The Army's Principles of Training are reduced from ten to four principles: Train as you fight; Train to standard; Train to sustain; and Train to maintain.
- The rest of the Army's training management concepts and procedures remain the same and are reflective of FM 7-0.
- You can find the ADP on the Army Training Network (ATN) at: https://atn.army.mil/adp7-0 or by searching the Army Publishing Directorate (APD) Doctrine and Training ADP list at: https://armypubs.army.mil/ProductMaps/PubForm/ADP.aspx.
