JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wa. -- Transitions are natural and frequent occurrences in an Army battalion, and it is typically during those moments of transition where the unit celebrates accomplishments.

Lt. Col. Shawn Patrick, commander of 14th Brigade Engineer Battalion, handed over his command to Lt. Col. Eric Parthemore during a change of command ceremony at Watkins Field here, May 30, 2018.

Col. Jay Miseli, commander 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, praised Patrick for his accomplishments as 14th BEB commander.

"The BCT had exceptional communications and an accurate intelligence picture because your battalion did what you always do, fire on all cylinders and enable the BCT fight," said Miseli. "You provided the leadership and focus to make these, and so many other, critical missions happen."

Patrick was humbled and gave all the credit of the accomplishments of the battalion to the Soldiers.

"This battalion, but more importantly, the Soldiers who stand within its ranks are the very reason we are here today," said Patrick. "They are the reason for all of the successes of this great battalion."

Miseli challenged Parthemore to build upon Patrick's legacy.

"Now it is time to apply your expertise, leadership and commitment to excellence as you take command of this outstanding battalion," said Miseli. "I look forward to the legacy you will build."

Parthemore was honored to return to the battalion where he served as a captain.

"I am tremendously proud to be the newest Soldier in the 14th Brigade Engineer Battalion," said Parthemore.
