DEFENSE HEALTH HEADQUARTERS, FALLS CHURCH, Va. (May 9, 2018)--The Army Nurse Corps, members of Nurse Corps of sister services, and the Defense Health Agency celebrated National Nurses Week (May 6 to 12) during a cake-cutting ceremony Wednesday at the Defense Health Headquarters.

"The American Nurses Association has designated the theme for this year as nursing: Inspire, Innovate, and Influence. Our nursing history includes many great nurse leaders. More than 150 years ago, Florence Nightingale and Dorothea Dix were inspiring leaders and great innovators. They influenced medical practice by relentlessly ensuring that their voices be heard, and they established nursing processes that continue to guide us to this day. Across the Military Health System, nurses have been aiding patients for generations, as volunteers, as commissioned and non-commissioned officers, enlisted soldiers, civilian staff and in contracted status since before the days of General George Washington," said Army Col. Melissa J. Hoffman, Deputy Chief, Army Nurse Corps
