Surrounded by family and friends, U.S. Army Reservist Robin Mitchell was promoted to chief warrant officer three in a ceremony held in the Seay Auditorium here Monday. Mitchell serves as a civilian traffic management specialist in the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command's (SDDC) operations directorate.

Chief Warrant Officer 5 Johnathan Waddy, the U.S. Transportation Command mobility warrant officer, presided over Mitchell's ceremony and spoke highly of the accomplishments she has achieved in both her military and civilian careers.

"As a young enlisted Soldier," said Waddy, "Robin was hard-charging and making things happen, and someone saw her potential for service at a higher level as a Warrant Officer."

"She was also the first of her family to join the military and the first of her family to earn a college degree," he added.

Mitchell enlisted in the Army in August 2000 as a transportation management coordinator. She received her commission as a mobility warrant officer in 2010.

During the ceremony, Waddy and Mitchell's husband, Thomas, changed out her uniform jacket rank, while sons Kevin and Chris applied new rank insignia on her uniform blouse.

Thomas, a retired command sergeant major, also works at SDDC.

"I'm very proud of her. She has worked so hard and accomplished so much," he said.

Mitchell was pleased that so many of her friends and family made the trip to Scott Air Force Base for her promotion, including her siblings Eric and Nicole Richardson and childhood friend Tammy Carter-Hill, all from Roanoke, Virginia.

Mitchell will return full-time to service in uniform as she heads to Wichita, Kansas in January to serve as the mobility warrant officer for the 451st Expeditionary Sustainment Command.
