FORT DRUM, N.Y. (Sept. 21, 2017) -- Members of the 10th Mountain Division Sustainment Brigade Support Operations team welcomed Brig. Gen. Rodney Fogg, 54th quartermaster general and commandant of the U.S. Army Quartermaster School, during a two-day visit to Fort Drum last week. During his visit, Fogg met with Muleskinner logisticians, gathering information and feedback about how the brigade "supports the climb."

Col. Shawn Schuldt, 10th Mountain Division Sustainment Brigade commander, briefed Fogg on the brigade's structure, performance and upcoming missions, highlighting its successes throughout the past fiscal year and its goals for the upcoming year.

During the briefing, Fogg and his team gleaned information about how the 10th Mountain Division (LI) has been able to use and implement current logistics systems, such as the Global Combat Support System-Army, an automated logistics system, which is currently being fielded throughout the Army. Schuldt and his team were able to demonstrate how the brigade has used these systems to reduce customer wait time and inventory adjustment records across the division, increasing effectiveness and readiness.

Afterwards, Fogg and some support operations leaders visited both the 548th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion's Supply Support Activity and the 514th Maintenance Company supply room, where junior Soldiers walked him through each step in the inventory control process, demonstrating both efficiencies and areas in need of improvement.

"This picture right here might get back to the Pentagon," Fogg said, laughing as he posed for a picture with Spc. Nicholas Richardson, a Soldier from 548th CSSB, who demonstrated for Fogg how he works around a simple deficiency in his shop.

Fogg used the visit as an opportunity to recognize outstanding work by the SSA's Soldiers and noncommissioned officers.

"This division is better because of what you do," he said. "I don't know if you get to hear that every day, but I'm telling you from 30 years' experience and being deployed multiple times and having a bunch of jobs, that what you do is outstanding and I appreciate it, the Army appreciates it, the 10th Mountain Division appreciates it, and I want you to hear it."

Schuldt and his team regarded the short visit as a success, thanking Fogg for his influential presence and the lessons and perspective he brought to the table. 
