Pentagon- Terence K. Battle, a senior civilian logistician in the Army, recently received a top award from Blacks in Government (B.I.G.), for his achievements at work and in the community in promoting diversity and community service.
Battle currently serves as the Chief of Staff Operations Director for Army Logistics. He has spent three decades with the military as an outstanding civilian and Soldier, and just as importantly, as a soldier for equal opportunity.
Lieutenant General Aundre F. Piggee, Deputy Chief of Staff for Army Logistics said, "Terence Battle has distinguished himself by promoting the tenants of civil rights, he displays exceptional character; he has mentored many leaders and has paved the way for talented African-American Soldiers and civilians."
William Moore, Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Army Logistics, who attended the award ceremony said, Battle has brought numerous talented African-Americans into the Army. Recently Battle was selected as a member of the new Army Diversity Council, formed to ensure talented Soldiers throughout the Army are postured to take leadership positions.
He has generously volunteered his time to mentor students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities -- two of those he mentored years ago are now Generals; and today he continues mentoring a new generation, giving them opportunities to become tomorrow's leaders.
He makes every day a day to serve, taking time to lend a hand to 40 families at his church, and organizing programs for his fraternity, veterans, and black history celebrations. Young people look up to Mr. Battle for a reason. He is a role model -- a very successful individual, with a thirst for giving back.
Blacks in Government was organized in 1975 and today serves as a voice for equal opportunity in government. B.I.G. President, Dr. Doris Sartor, presented Battle the Military Meritorious Service Award at their annual conference in Atlantic City, NJ. He was the Army's recipient, one of 10 to receive this honor across the Department of Defense.
