It has been happening all week at the Prichard Place Chapel. Chances are your child has been involved and each night they have gone to bed thinking about how much fun they're going to have the next day at Vacation Bible School.
VBS is a one-week summer program sponsored by the Fort Knox Religious Support Office chaplains and chaplain assistants at Prichard Place Chapel from 9 a.m. to noon. VBS was held Monday through Friday, July 24-28. This year's theme was "Created by God -- Built for a Purpose."
What happens at VBS? It's a time for children, ages 4 years old through incoming sixth-graders, to learn about the love God has for them. It is a time where children are led by chapel volunteers in six different classes each day. Children participated in classes such as sound wave singing, Bible discovery, imagination station crafts, snack factory, spotlight photo and video class and game makers recreation.
Each day the children learned a truth from the Bible about themselves, about God and how much God loves each one of us. On July 24, the children learned "God Made You." Decker, the Decorator Crab inspired the children to be thankful for God making them wonderfully complex. On July 25, Tina the Cathedral Termite taught the children that "God Is For You." The children learned that if God is for us, who can ever be against us? On July 26, Bubba the Humpback Whale reminded all the children that God is with them wherever they go. The children learned from Skyler the Bowerbird that God's unfailing love will last forever. On July 27, Abbee the Honey Bee taught the children that God made us for a reason. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us, "For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord."
All of the activities, games, snacks, crafts and music for each day centered on the above themes of the day. There were 150 children in attendance and more than 65 volunteers leading the children each day.
If you missed VBS this year, mark your calendar for next summer. VBS will be back.
