REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (Aug. 2, 2017) -- Jim Thompson is a manufacturing engineer at the Prototype Integration Facility at Redstone Arsenal. Thompson reviews drawing packages for producibility and ensures all drawing notes and military standards are appropriate and correct. He also works on programs like Multi-Mission Launcher and the UH-60V providing input on coatings, materials, and alternate design ideas. Thompson gives briefings on Chemical Agent Resistant Coating paint and has provided input into the latest revision of the C.A.R.C. paint application specification.
"I am ready to do whatever is needed of me to help complete PIF projects whether that is helping with design, procurement, delivering parts, or traveling to potential partner organizations for new projects," said Thompson. "I have a son in the Special Forces and I know that the projects created at the PIF get into the hands of the Warfighters in a rapid time frame."
Thompson is currently managing the PIF's Fully Integrated Rapid Solution Teams initiative, referred to as FIRST. This is a new, government-operated process for designing, building, testing, and installing hardware in a rapid manner.
Thompson holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Mississippi State University. He has received recognition as the "Hero of the Day" award from Lt. Gen. William Phillips for acquisition task completed while working in the HELLFIRE missile project office.
Thompson said he stays busy at work, but also enjoys time with his family.
"I have 5 grandkids that are always giving me an opportunity to experience new things. I love wood working, photography, and old cars, which usually involves my grandkids. I also enjoy singing in the choir at the First Baptist Church in Athens, Ala."
