In support of Month of the Military Child, Capt. Matthew Hausserman, dentist at Kleber Dental Clinic, Kleber Kaserne, Germany, and Spec. Clifford Summers, dental hygienist, visited the Sembach Child Development Center, Sembach Kaserne, Germany, April 19 to talk to children about the importance of dental hygiene.

This is the third year Hausserman and Summers have visited the CDC. Hausserman said "it is important because it gives the children a good experience -- to see a dentist in a very friendly environment -- they see their friends do the exam and they get some dental education as well."

Dental health starts from the time children start getting their teeth, according to Hausserman, so during their trip the pair not only checked the teeth of the toddlers and preschoolers, but also the pre-toddlers in the infant room who were about 18-months-old.

Hausserman said visits like this are beneficial because it introduces life-long habits at an early age.

Summers added that it's not just the kids who take something away.

"You get to make a difference to the kids, he said, "the kids look at you like you are a role model so you feel like you are really making a difference here. It's rewarding."
