The U. S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM) Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) program office conducted a three-day 'Not In My Squad' (NIMS) workshop in San Antonio, Texas March 1-3. More than 25 Noncommissioned Officers from 27 units across MEDCOM attended the workshop.
"The NIMS workshop empowered junior NCO participants to take ownership of and address critical challenges they face while attempting to establish/maintain dignity, respect, and inclusion within their squad," said Sgt. Maj. Wendell Mullen, MEDCOM SHARP program office.
Junior NCO participants shared challenges, best practices, and developed recommendations for empowering leaders to succeed at the squad-level. The workshop concluded with Soldiers briefing any challenges that cannot be solved at their levels to leaders, along with potential solutions. These newly developed recommendations were then presented to the MEDCOM Command Sergeant Major, to include several regional, brigade and battalion Command Sergeant Majors for review, consideration, and support for implementation.
The MEDCOM SHARP program office integrates the NIMS workshop to empower NCOs to get at the root causes that hinder reporting, ensure new members are sponsored in the unit and deter inappropriate behavior that undermine Army Values.
