Nurses and staff at Lyster Army Health Clinic gathered March 3 to celebrate the 116th anniversary of the Army Nurse Corps.

The ceremony welcomed Maj. Gen. Barbara Holcomb, commander of Medical Research and Material Command and Chief of the U.S. Army Nurse Corps, as guest speaker.

Under the theme "Leading Readiness and Professional Practice: Getting it Done Since 1901," Holcomb spoke to the group about the enduring spirit and mission of the Corps.

"The Army Nurse Corps has always been an innovative, creative body of knowledge, making things work in tough, austere environments," Holcomb said.

Holcomb presented two Lyster nurses with coins.

The coins serve as tangible symbols of the Corps' appreciation to individuals who go above and beyond in their daily efforts with both patients and their teams. They were presented to Cpt. Pamela Francis and Sgt. 1st Class Jamie Weber.
