On February 2, 2017, the U.S. Army Nurse Corps celebrated their 116th anniversary.

Keller Army Community Hospital Nurses and U.S. Army Nurses throughout the world celebrated this anniversary, which commemorates the Corps' prolific, courageous, and benevolent history.

This year's Army Nurse Corps theme is: "Leading Readiness and Professional Practice: Getting it done since 1901!"

Keller Army Community Hospital Nurses celebrated the anniversary during a Thursday morning ceremony at Keller. Lt. Col Stacey Ferreira, Asst. Deputy Commander for Nursing and Health Services, Keller Army Community Hospital, provided opening remarks. Lt. Col. Ferreira highlighted the three parts of readiness: personal readiness, maximizing skills, and teamwork.

Maj. Jessica Chavez, Chief Nurse, Dept. of Surgery, Keller Army Community Hospital, read the U.S. Army Nurse Team Creed, followed by cake-cutting ceremony. The cake was cut by Maj. Brian Johnston, the senior-most nurse at Keller Army Community Hospital, and Spc. Tyler Clark, the junior-most nurse at Keller.

The Keller Nurse Corps will continue their celebration with a tour of the U.S. Military Academy.

Army Nurses have been aiding the sick and wounded in every major conflict that this country has faced, and will continue to face. Their unwavering dedication and sacrifice to serving these soldiers and their families is profoundly commendable and deserving of recognition. They continue to be an integral part of all U.S. military health facilities throughout the country and overseas.

Today, U.S. Army Nurses, we salute you.
