KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany -- Training Support Center Kaiserslautern recently launched a new Self Help and Graphics Shop on Kleber Kaserne, offering limited free printing and lamination services for the Kaiserslautern community.
TSC Kaiserslautern, which falls under Regional Training Support Division-West, Training Support Activity Europe, 7th Army Training Command, provides this service at no cost as well as additional home-station training and expeditionary support to ensure Soldiers in the Rheinland-Pfalz region are Europe Strong.
"The new services we provide our Kaiserslautern Military Community gives them more options when it comes to their products," said Tim Watson, TSC chief. "The new print shop and video capabilities are services we've wanted to provide for a long time, and now we can."
If customers have items to print or laminate, they can do it themselves in the new graphics shop in Bldg. 3258 on Kleber Kaserne under the supervision of TSC Visual Information Specialist Oliver Sommer.
Sommer joined the TSC team seven months ago, bringing 30 years of video production and post production experience to the job and has already received several work orders since the new shop opened.
"When I receive a video work order, I film, edit and upload videos of official functions and training to Defense Video Imagery Distribution System and provide a DVD of the completed project to the requester," Sommer said. "I also have graphics experience, so I am ready to assist customers with their ongoing projects and provide help with printing and lamination of mission-related and training items."
Before Sommer arrived, the Kaiserslautern TSC only had video support available at their Baumholder location, which made it difficult to record significant historical events, Watson said.
"With this new capability, we can provide service to our customers and perform historical video documentation -- we couldn't do that six months ago," he said.
The TSC team provides training support to Kaiserslautern to include the Baumholder Military Community by delivering a robust training mission consisting of four pillars of support:
1. Management of Training Support System Programs to include training areas, land and firing ranges
2. Training Aids, Devices, Simulators and Simulations (TADS)
3. Virtual training
4. Visual information
Soldiers requiring weapons and combat training can go to local TSC training areas, small-arms ranges and simulated urban operations sites. Units can also checkout realistic training aids to include mannequins for emergency medical training, moulage make up kits to simulate mock injuries, training munitions, pamphlets, topographical maps and reserve training simulators like the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle Assistance Trainer that simulates vehicle rollovers.
Members of the team can also deploy up to 90 days with Soldiers to support expeditionary training throughout Europe and Africa for U.S. and NATO training exercises. TSC team members have also deployed to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve, Watson said.
Since many training programs are online, TSC also offers a digital learning facility on Pulaski Barracks featuring three classrooms furnished with 18 computers per room.
"There are several classes that are taught there, and we also have mobile training teams that travel here to teach courses. Soldiers can also perform their structured self-development on the computers as well," Watson said. "In the future, our digital learning capability will move to Kleber Kaserne so it will be centrally located for our customers."
Visual information to include videography, graphics and photography projects are shot with state-of-the-art equipment by experienced TSC team members, and official photos, no-fee passports, head and shoulders, and international driver's license photos are taken in professional photo studios in Bldg. 3266 on Kleber Kaserne and Bldg. 8474 on Baumholder. Official event photos and videos to include changes of command and retirements can be requested as well, but must be coordinated well in advance. Customers can also sign out public address systems, overhead projectors and screens.
Although they offer these services to the military community, there are some things TSC cannot do, Watson said.
"We can't support social events -- seating charts, programs, posters, etc., if it isn't of an official capacity," he said. "If there are any questions regarding the type of event, commanders can obtain a legal review to ensure it's an official function."
