US, Dutch leaders to hold ribbon-cutting ceremony for new APS site, Dec. 15

EYGELSHOVEN, Netherlands - U.S. and Dutch military and diplomatic leaders will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony, in support of the European Reassurance Initiative, at Eygelshoven Army Depot-BENELUX in Eygelshoven, Netherlands, Dec. 15 at 1:30 p.m.

Army Prepositioned Stocks, or APS, is a program which supports the National Military Strategy by strategically prepositioning critical war stocks afloat and ashore worldwide, thus reducing the deployment response times of the modular expeditionary Army. The meaning of the name, APS-2 does not designate that this is the second set in Europe. APS-2 consists of prepositioned sets, operational project stocks, activity sets, and war reserve stocks for allies. The APS-2 transitioned from the European Activity Set.

The following dignitaries are scheduled to speak: Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, commanding general, U.S. Army Europe; Dutch Gen. Tom Middendorp, Chief Defense Staff, Royal Netherlands Army, and Edelachtbare Heer J. Som, mayor of Eygelshoven, Netherlands.

A brief question and answer period will be offered at the conclusion of the ceremony. One-on-one interviews may be available, time permitting and must be requested no later than noon, Dec. 14, through Ms. Ronnie Schelby -- contact data below.
