Special operations combat medics assigned to the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) participated in a two-day medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) training event at Fort Carson, Colo. on Nov. 8-9. The training involved UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters transporting the medics to different training locations around Ft. Carson where they encountered a variety of scenarios designed to test their technical and tactical medical expertise as well as their ability to quickly navigate mental and physical obstacles. The medics showcased their ability to infiltrate and evacuate both urban areas as well as isolated, cliff-side locations, via helicopter. Some of the skills demonstrated included repelling down cliff faces and elevator shafts to retrieve casualties, constructing and utilizing hoists to lift the casualties back up, transporting casualties through mountainous terrain, and performing medical aid both on the ground and while in mid-flight.
